Johana Agudo: “We love to innovate and include that ¡wao! factor in every project”

“Her passion for interior design began with a local vision. Now, after several years of experience, her studio shines with a much more international focus. She searches the world for new materials, explores innovative techniques, visits and works with suppliers from other latitudes, and attends
trade shows around the world. She aims to stay up-to-date and bring the best to Latin America.”

Johana Agudo name stands out among the five personalities who are changing Panamanian design; therefore, it is an honor for AUNO to interview a brilliant mind who, for more than 20 years, has been one of the pillars of the aesthetic transformation in the world of interior design in our country. “I am very grateful for this distinction. An achievement that is achieved through hard work and a great team of professionals, but, above all, through the trust of our clients who have remained loyal to the brand throughout this time.”

A merit that Johana has earned thanks to her constant discipline, responsibility, ethics, and especially by demonstrating love and passion for what she does. “The great thing about our profession is that the longer we stay in the market, the more ‘in’ we are; our know-how has evolved over the years we’ve been in the industry. Nowadays, we love to innovate in projects and always include that ‘wow’ factor!”

“In every project, details are carefully considered to create a harmony of elements, resulting in a luxurious, comfortable, and incredibly beautiful work”

Thanks to this recognition, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to ask Johana about her current creative process. “First, we conduct a preliminary analysis with the client to understand the value they place on the project and where they want to take it. So, we start by defining a style. There may be many great ideas, but when the direction is clear, everything flows.”

Secondly, but just as important, is establishing an estimated budget to create feasible designs. “Because no matter how big the dream is, we always need to keep our feet on the ground and be aware of the achievable scope. This helps us determine how to allocate resources effectively.” The final step focuses on executing the first two stages. “This is a crucial point because, as I always say, paper can hold anything, but making it happen and bringing it to life is the real challenge.”

Another key aspect of this creative process is incorporating five essential elements that have become the signature of Johana Agudo Studio Design:

  1. Function. The reason the space was created.

  2. Personality. Each project has its own DNA, and that must always be discovered.

  3. Lighting. Every design must have appropriate artificial and natural lighting. Johana enjoys playing with the effects created by light and shadow to achieve more dramatic spaces.

  4. Art. She increasingly focuses on how artistic pieces add value to both interior and exterior spaces.

  5. Nature. This element always makes a project feel alive, which is why she never forgets to include plants and flowers they bring warmth and intimacy.

In addition to these essentials, Johana always keeps an eye on trends and new technologies to offer her clients the most sophisticated designs. “Times are changing, and at an increasingly rapid pace. That’s why it’s a real challenge to work with innovative materials and ideas in order to continue shaping Panamanian design culture.” With this drive for innovation, she has noticed that residential spaces are integrating more technological advancements to enhance comfort. “We seek cozy and multifunctional areas, especially as work styles have evolved after the pandemic.”
